Queer Cyprus Association Held “LGBTI+ Inclusive Health is Possible!” Roundtable Meeting with Health Professionals.

The “LGBTI+ Inclusive Health is Possible!” Roundtable was held at the Universal Patient Right Association within the scope of the Rainbow Project funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action VII Grant Scheme and implemented by the Queer Cyprus Association.

The meeting was organized with the aim of contributing to the development of LGBTI+ inclusive education programmes for healthcare professionals under the Rainbow Project, which seeks to address issues regarding LGBTI+s and prepare the content for the upcoming capacity building trainings. This event provided a valuable opportunity, especially for healthcare professionals operating in the health sector, emphasizing the importance of creating a healthcare environment that is sensitive to LGBTI+ rights.

The event commenced with an opening speech by a Queer Cyprus activist. In the first part of the meeting, Research Expert Prof. Dr. Şenel Hüsnü Raman presented findings, results, and recommendations from a study mapping the attitudes of education professionals towards LGBTI+s, providing valuable insights to the participants. Following Prof. Raman’s presentation, a question-and-answer session was held.

Under the guidance of the Programme Development Expert Prof. Dr. Ahmet Güneyli, the second part of the roundtable meeting, with the participation of experts, was initiated. The roundtable meeting with healthcare professionals was moderated by Kemal Elyeli, while the roundtable meeting with psychological counsellors and psychologists was moderated by Psk. Dr. Safir Maner and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Güneyli. In these roundtable meetings, Clinical Psychologist Yaren Müezzin and Social Work Specialist Güney Tosun served as rapporteurs. In the final session, the topics discussed in the roundtable meetings were summarized by the experts for all participants. This event provided an opportunity for participants to discuss practical ways of creating healthcare services that are sensitive to LGBTI+ rights, contributing to the development of education programmes under the Rainbow Project funded by the European Union under the Cypriot Civil Society in Action VII Grant Scheme and implemented by the Queer Cyprus Association.

In a statement issued by Queer Cyprus Association, they emphasized the success of the “LGBTI+ Inclusive Health is Possible!” Roundtable Meeting. They highlighted the critical role of professionals in the healthcare sector participating in such events to increase societal awareness and create a sensitive environment for LGBTI+ rights.
