Queer Cyprus Association: 10th Anniversary exhibition and launch of “Diversity of Colours” project.
(Nicosia, 25/02/19) The 10th Anniversary exhibition of Queer Cyprus and launch event of Diversity of Colours Project will be held at the European Mediterranean Art Association (EMAA) on Monday, March 4, 2019 at 19:00. This project is funded by the European Union under the “Cypriot Civil Society in Action VI” Grant Scheme and implemented by the Queer Cyprus Association.
The project aims to improve access of LGBTI+’s to human rights and to prevent discrimination in the northern part of Cyprus. At the launch event, the opening remarks will be followed by the 10th Anniversary exhibition of Queer Cyprus and a cocktail reception.
The 10th Anniversary exhibition of Queer Cyprus will reflect the progress of the association from the days of the Initiative Against Homophobia (HOKI) which was established on May 17, 2008, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, up until today’s Queer Cyprus Association. This artistic exhibition is being curated by Zehra Sonya, president of EMAA. The exhibition can be visited after the opening speeches and between 16:00 and 20:00 every weekday from March 5, 2019 until March 11, 2019.
The Diversity of Colours Project started on December 2018 and will continue for 3 years. Within the framework of the project various activities will be organized in cooperation with partner organizations. The activities include in-house capacity building activities; trainings for psychologists and lawyers; an internship and volunteer programme; media monitoring; fund raising activities; newsletters; local meetings against homophobia, biphobia and transphobia; international conferences in cooperation with universities; booklets related to LGBTI+ issues; attitude based research; providing legal, psychological and social consultancy services to LGBTI+’s and strategic litigation.
