Queer Cyprus Association visited the Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ in regards to the 1st of December ‘World AIDS Awareness Day’

Queer Cyprus Association visited the Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ in regards to the 1st of December ‘World AIDS Awareness Day’ and to highlight lack of awareness in the society regards to HIV/AIDS.

The team also emphasised the violations of rights caused by the deportation of non-citizens and emphasised that the rights of people living with HIV are human rights. Underlining that people avoid being tested due to the stigma in society, Queer Cyprus activists received a promise from the Minister to expand anonymous testing centres in public hospitals.

The Minister of Health İzlem Gürçağ stated that she is sensitive to this issue and promised to follow-up  and take steps to make anonymous test centres available, accessible  and widespread where people can take tests without the fear of their information being disclosed.
