(February 14th, 2025, Nicosia) – Within the scope of the Helix Project, Queer Cyprus Association focused on the theme of “Intersectionality and Inclusivity in SOGIESC[1] Activism” in the second event of its thematic discussion series.
At the second event, held at the Queer Cyprus Association’s premises, activists and community members from all across Cyprus explored how individuals’ social and political identities jointly create different forms of discrimination or privilege in Cypriot LGBTI+ activism.
As part of the Helix Project, financed under the European Union Aid Programme for the Turkish Cypriot community and implemented by the Queer Cyprus Association, six thematic discussions are planned to be held. These discussions aim to conduct an advocacy effort across Cyprus, addressing the current issues faced by LGBTI+ individuals in both the northern and southern parts of the island. The events are being carried out in collaboration with the ACCEPT LGBTI and Queer Collective organizations in southern Cyprus.
During the second event, discussions covered challenges faced by LGBTI+ individuals in their daily lives due to being part of a small society, such as societal pressure, diverse lived experiences, and layers of multiple discrimination. The event also addressed inclusive educational opportunities and positive examples of inclusive education worldwide as solutions to these challenges.
