“Different Families, Same Love”

With the support of ILGA-Europe, the Initiative Against Homophobia Association (international lesbian and gay organization) held the opening of the photograph exhibition entitled “Different Families, Same Love”  at Atolye Cadi Kazani Cafe last night. The exhibition will be open for visiting until January 9, Sunday between the hours 17:00-23:00.

According to the association’s statement, the Initiative aims to organize events which; raise awareness about countering discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity; preventing homophobia, biphobia and transphobia; protecting the Universal Rights and Freedom of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals; and this photograph exhibition is a step within the work towards this goal.

The statement also explains that ILG-Europe provided support to the organization of the exhibition in order to emphasize that every individual has fundamental family rights regardless of their orientation and gender identity. According to the statement these families are either not recognized or experience legal discrimination in many European countries and the aims of the exhibition are to showcase the forms of discrimination they face and to raise an objection towards the social acceptance of such forms of discrimination.

Originally, ILGA-Europe’s “Different Families, Same Love” exhibition began in 2008 and 2009 in Europe as a poster and billboard campaign. The exhibition has been held all around Europe since 2010 to raise awareness about family rights.
